Coffee at the Old Milk Bar

Writer: Coffee CatchupCoffee Catchup

Located at 144 Dundas Street, Thornbury is a wonderfully converted old milk bar, The Old Milk Bar Café, which offers a wonderful environment to grab a coffee, breakfast or lunch.

I happened to stumble upon the remnants of an old milk bar today that has been wonderfully converted into a Café.  For those who do not know the term Milk Bar, this is a traditional corner convenience store in Australia that was typical during the 80-90s, generally ran by families who live out back in a attached house.  I grow up with around the corner from our local milk bar and would often visit with my mates to buy a bag of mixed lollies for 20 cents.

The Old Milk Bar Café has been renovated well with the original Milk Bar façade being retained it drew me back to my childhood. They have a spacious seating area with both an indoor and separated covered outdoor area and the overall atmosphere is very modern.

The latte I ordered was presented with a typical leaf design. There was a vert nice aroma as I smelt the coffee land at my table.  The flavour profile was bold with a nice fruity after note on the palette.

I also tried their banana bread toasted with butter, it was light and fluffy and went down a treat.

The Old Milk Bar uses its on blend of beans which are roasted onsite.

If you are ever in the Thornbury area and looking for an interesting place to grab a coffee, catch up with friends or simply have something to eat then stop by the Old Milk Bar.
